Emily D. Smith is Of Counsel in the Perez Morris Columbus office, focusing on workers’ compensation. She brings over two decades of experience managing workers’ compensation, employment, general business, and risk matters.

She previously served as General Counsel and Corporate Secretary, providing strategic legal counsel to the business, overseeing litigation, and advising on corporate governance. She also served as Assistant General Counsel for a large retail company, advising on labor and employment matters, intellectual property, and regulatory compliance across the U.S. and Canada. In addition, she provided in-house legal guidance at Honda North America, Inc., counseling the workers’ compensation and safety programs in North America and helping organizations implement practical solutions to reduce risk and improve outcomes.

Emily earned her Juris Doctor from The Ohio State University Moritz College of Law and her Bachelor of Science in Child and Family Studies, with honors, from The Ohio State University. Inspired by her father’s legal career, she pursued law for its blend of logic and problem-solving. She is known for her practical, empathetic approach and her ability to align legal strategy with business objectives.

Outside of work, Emily enjoys spending time with her daughters and their dog, as well as outdoor activities in beautiful weather, great books, and culinary experiments.
